Finally, the fifth instalment, Human Worlds, explores how plants and humans have forged extraordinary relationships, past, present and future. The final episode looks at how human development has led to the extinction of some species and the negative impact on other biomes.

Each episode of The Green Planet was produced by a team of filmmakers from 27 countries, with over five million pounds spent on equipment and travel. It was broadcast in the UK and Canada on BBC One and iPlayer.

It originally comprised five one-hour long episodes, with the final ten minutes a'making of' segment. However, in some territories (such as the US) these'making of' segments were cut from each episode and strung together to make a sixth one-hour segment.
