Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

If you’re into science fiction comedy and detective stories, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is worth checking out. Starring Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood, the BBC America series is based on Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

In this comedy adventure, Dirk Gently (Barnett) and Todd Brotzman (Wood) work together to solve cases that often feature bizarre aspects. They also have a lot of fun along the way.

How to watch Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a hilarious, fast-paced series that blends sci-fi, comedy and mystery. Its eccentric detective, Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), believes in the interconnectedness of all things, and his unconventional investigations take him across the globe, solving a variety of odd mysteries.

In the first season, Dirk is hired by hapless Seattle bellhop Todd Brotzman to solve a triple murder in his penthouse. He soon finds himself in trouble, with government agents following him and a Blackwing subject named Bart Curlish trying to recapture him.

Meanwhile, Farah Black, Spring’s bodyguard, is lured to Todd’s apartment building by Gordon Rimmer, who swaps a living FBI agent’s soul with one of his bald men and makes Lydia, Spring’s daughter, act like a dog. When the bald men attack her and the corgi she is protecting, they are forced to escape together, and when the Rowdy 3 arrive to stop them, Dirk, Todd and Farah run away.

Season 1

A quirky detective show that’s full of bizarre characters, cults, body swappers, soul-sucking humans and time travel. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency thrusts reluctant sidekick Todd Brotzman into the weird world of an unconventional detective who believes in the interconnectedness of all things.

The first season of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective agency starts off very chaotic and witty but settles into a more consistent rhythm as it develops its characters and builds on its core mysteries. It’s an intelligently written show that throws a healthy dose of confusion into the mix but it’s also well handled and sells all of these bizarre situations really well.

It’s not quite as good as the novel series that inspired it, but Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective is still an excellent mystery show that’s very funny and entertaining. The way the show evolves from comedy to drama is brilliant and the mystery at the heart of it is a real treat.

Season 2

After a breakout season last year, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is back with a brand new set of characters and a whole bunch of new dimension-hopping plot lines. It’s a hilarious, chaotic mess that will have you asking all sorts of questions about the nature of reality and the world’s underlying chaos.

Season 2 opens with bellhop Todd Brotzman in the midst of a series of strange events that lead to him becoming implicated in a murder he didn’t commit. As he reluctantly works with fast-talking detective Dirk Gently, strange things start to happen around him and he begins to believe that he and Dirk are meant to solve the mystery together.

This season also adds a few more characters, including Bart, who’s a mirror-like character who’s obsessed with killing people and feeling connected to “the fabric of the universe.” She’s a great addition to the show, and her murder spree will keep you on your toes.

Episode 1

In this episode of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, we meet the eccentric detective and his new sidekick Todd Brotzman. The two have an instant chemistry and their reckless stumbling is what makes this series a real joy to watch.

The show’s first episode is a solid entry into the BBC America line up and the imaginative ideas, good visual effects and light-hearted chemistry between Todd and Dirk make this a fun and entertaining watch. The slew of strange characters introduced in this episode do a lot to set the tone for the season and the open ending leaves you wanting more.

Episode 2

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a series about an unconventional detective who believes in the “fundamental interconnectedness of all things.” When mysteries collide, this eccentric investigator has to solve them.

Episode 2 reveals a connection between two seemingly-unrelated cases: a client who believes the Pentagon are trying to kill him and another whose horoscopes appear to be coming true. It also introduces a new sidekick, Jane (Jane Greene), who finds Dirk odd but alluring.

In this episode, Dirk investigates a missing robot that was created by Professor Jericho, who whittled away grant money to create it. The robot is named Elaine and it’s designed to communicate with paraplegics using a skullcap device.

Episode 3

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is back this weekend and it’s going to be weirder than ever. In the episode titled “Two Broken Fingers” Dirk and his team investigate a 40-year-old case that involves two dead bodies, but what they find could have a much bigger impact than they originally thought.

Fortunately, Dirk and MacDuff are ready to help solve the mystery. But what they uncover isn’t necessarily what they expect, as Bart comes back to town, spinning the story in a whole new direction.

If you’re a fan of BBC America’s Dirk Gently series, this episode is definitely worth checking out. It’s a great addition to the series and a good way to get more acquainted with the world of Dirk Gently and his crew. So, make sure to tune in Saturday night! Watch the episode online on BBC America, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Microsoft Movies & TV, Google Play, Apple TV and more.

Episode 4

In this episode of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) is fired from his job after he discovers a multiple homicide. Then he meets Dirk Gently, a holistic detective who claims that his methods hinge on a “fundamental interconnectedness of all things” — a fact that may be confusing to even the most sophisticated of people.

Despite his best efforts, Dirk can’t seem to get Todd to slow down or think things through. That’s until they get into a room with several computer screens that change their displays when put together. They eventually escape the room through a tunnel, only to find themselves inside an underground death maze that resembles the one in the PlayStation game Fallout 3.

Episode 5

This week, Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) is thrown into chaos when a mysterious stranger appears. But what could have been a clunky case turns out to be full of clever twists that slot together like an intricate puzzle.

Episode 5 of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency continues to explore this season’s weird interconnectedness and is a joy to watch. The show has a lot of imaginative ideas and good visual effects but what really makes it shine is its chemistry between the two main characters.

While the whole thing has a bit of an over-the-top feel to it, its the chemistry between Dirk and Todd that really makes this show work. They’re a great pair and their willingness to go on dangerous adventures despite the dangers they face helps make this show a fun one to watch.

Episode 6

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is back with another time-hopping chapter. That’s not to say the episode is a retread, because there are plenty of new storylines to keep things fresh.

Todd Brotzman meets self-proclaimed detective Dirk Gently and is swept up in a case involving the death of a reclusive millionaire and the kidnapping of his daughter Lydia. As multiple stories seem primed to converge, tangled in an endless loop, Todd’s life is forever changed.

Dirk and Todd find themselves in a Blackwing facility where they are attacked by four men who call themselves “The Rowdy 3.” They fight to get away from them, but their efforts fail. They then end up in a room with a group of computer screens that display a puzzle that only Dirk knows the answer to.

Episode 7

After Dirk (Samuel Barnett) and Todd (Elijah Wood) jump out of a pool, they are quickly transported to Wendimoor. They are met with hostile natives; deadly misunderstandings; and very literally, evil knights.

Regardless of the circumstances, Dirk is still upset over Arnold’s death. But he is also a holistic detective, meaning he will keep going in order to solve this case.

In the meantime, Dirk’s new girlfriend has him on leash and is threatening to kill him if he ever leaves. He is hesitant to let her loose, but she explains that it’s her boyfriend and that she will make him a nice man again if he stays away from Wendimoor.

In the ruins, Dirk is confronted by a red-haired boogle and is shocked to realize that everything that he has been thinking is actually connected. He starts to realize that the murphy bed portal dropped him and Todd into the ruins, that the Men of the Machine swapped a kitten’s soul for a shark’s, that Rimmer is obsessed with Lux Dujour, and that all of this leads back to Wendimoor.
