How to Watch Detective Pikachu Online

Pokemon Detective Pikachu is one of the most unexpected live-action Pokemon movies you'll ever see. It's the story of a young boy named Tim Goodman and his witty, tough-talking Pikachu as they try to figure out what happened to his father in Ryme City.

Along the way, they encounter a variety of charming people and intriguing Pokemon in the real world. However, they also have to battle a few Pokemon villains!

The Story

In a world where humans collect pocket monsters, train them and battle them for a living, a former trainer named Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) meets a witty Pokemon named Pikachu. Together, they investigate the mysterious disappearance of Harry Goodman (Ryan Reynolds), a detective who was also Pikachu's partner.

As Tim and Pikachu travel through Ryme City, a sprawling metropolis where humans and Pokemon live side by side, they encounter a diverse cast of characters on their way to discover a plot that could destroy the peaceful co-existence between these two species and threaten the entire Pokemon universe. As a result, Tim must put his detective skills to the test in order to foil the mastermind behind the disturbances.

Fortunately, he has some help from his friends: reporter Lucy Stevens (Kathryn Newton) and her Pokemon partner Psyduck. They head to a lab facility that Harry was investigating shortly before his disappearance and find that the facility was experimenting on Mewtwo by synthesizing "R" from its genes, which causes an incoherent rage in users.

At the lab, they meet a man named Yoshida (Justice Smith), who reveals that he worked at the same place as Harry. He explains that two months prior to their meeting, Harry and his partner Pikachu were involved in a car accident, which caused Harry to disappear.

After the accident, Pikachu lost his ability to use moves and became amnesiac. He tells Tim that he knows of the crash and the R case, but he can't remember anything else.

The rest of the movie follows Tim and Pikachu on their investigation, chasing clues through neon-lit streets of Ryme City as they chase down the mastermind behind the disturbances that have rocked this quaint town. It's a fun, carefree, Pokemon-filled romp, and for diehard fans of the franchise, it's worth checking out.

The Plot

A disenchanted boy named Tim Goodman has given up on the idea of being a Pokemon trainer. But when his father, a police detective, goes missing and he learns that his Pokemon partner Pikachu is speaking to him, he decides to go on a search for him.

The movie takes place in Ryme City, a progressive utopia where humans and Pokemon live peacefully side by side. However, a villain named Howard Clifford (Bill Nighy) is trying to change the world by fusing human and Pokemon together. His plan involves releasing a toxic gas called "R" across the city to make Pokemon rampage.

While he and his Pokemon partner investigate this, Tim also comes across a clue that could lead him to his father's location. A note written by Harry for Tim and a canister containing a purple gas called "R" are discovered at Harry's apartment.

Later, Tim and his Pikachu visit an underground illegal Pokemon battle arena where the owner Sebastian recognizes Pikachu as the one who injured his Charizard in a previous battle. He asks for a rematch and offers to give them information if they win.

But before Tim and Pikachu can escape, they encounter Howard Clifford who reveals his evil plan to fuse all the Pokemon in Ryme City with their humans. He tries to use Mewtwo to carry out this transformation but is thwarted by Pikachu and Tim.

Eventually, Tim manages to remove Howard's helmet from Mewtwo freeing him from his mind control. But then, he is caught by Roger Clifford, the son of Howard who now owns Ryme City.

As it turns out, the whole situation was all part of a larger plan to make Pokemon go crazy and create a world where everyone is Pokemon. The twist that the movie ended on is so sudden and unexpected, it will leave you confused until you realize what has happened.

The Characters

Aside from Pikachu, the main character of detective pikachu is Ryme City resident Tim Goodman (Justice Smith). He's a former Pokemon trainer, insurance agent, and now detective. He's also the only one who can hear the Pokemon talk and translate its statements.

To investigate a mystery involving a Pokemon and a criminal mastermind, Tim recruits the help of a talking Detective Pikachu, who's voiced by Ryan Reynolds. He teams up with Lucy (Kathryn Newton), a budding reporter who's also Pikachu's partner, and their investigation leads them to the ruins of an abandoned Pokemon research lab.

At first, Tim and Pikachu aren't sure what to believe when they learn that the lab's chief scientist, Dr. Ann Laurent, was a Pokemon neurologist who had her research grant revoked after experimenting on mind-controlling Pokemon. However, when they meet with a grumpy Snubbull (voiced by Ken Watanabe) and an enigmatic Ditto (Suki Waterhouse), they are soon convinced of the truth.

Meanwhile, Roger Clifford (Bill Nighy) and his associates at Clifford Industries have been monitoring them via their security cameras. As a result, they've been sending out genetically modified Greninja to attack the group, but Tim and Pikachu are able to fend them off with the help of a Bulbasaur.

The bulk of the film takes place in Ryme City, where many Pokemon from different generations live and thrive. Though some have evolved into more powerful forms, like Howard's Flareon and Roger's Charizard, most are still fairly normal-looking, and there's even a couple of mountain-sized Torterra.

While this isn't the most thrilling movie you'll ever see, it does have some good moments, especially when it comes to the Pokemon and their interactions with humans. It's a lighthearted take on the series, and fans should be able to enjoy it.

The Music

The award for most overtly commercially produced film of the year goes to Detective Pikachu, which is no mean feat considering it is a PG rated property. As one might expect, the movie has its share of pitfalls, but if you are willing to put up with the teeming swarm of ogling octo-saurs, you will be well rewarded with a grin apiece in the end. The movie also ensconces you in the presence of a gaggle of acrobats, albeit in a confined space. You will be hard pressed to relegate yourself to the couch to the detriment of your beloved, but you will savour the experience with a glass of champagne in hand and a night cap firmly attached.

The Visuals

The visuals in detective pikachu are an integral part of the movie, so it’s important to pay close attention to them. The film uses a lot of humor and Easter eggs to attract viewers from all walks of life, and the Pokemon in the movie are incredibly detailed and realistic.

The visual effects team did a great job of adapting Pokemon to live action, and even the most iconic ones have been given a very realistic design. Pikachu has a skeleton that is not quite human-like, and it took time for the animators to come up with a design that would support his skeleton and look realistic in real life.

Another challenge was transforming the silhouettes of the Pokemon to be more realistic. The most famous one is Pikachu, which has a silhouette of “a sack of potatoes” — something that the team had to overcome. The team had to redraw and redo the design of the Pokemon’s silhouette in order to make it more realistic, as Nordby told Wired in an interview.

In addition, they had to keep the silhouettes of other Pokemon realistic as well. This included everything from the scaly Pokemon like Bulbasaur and Charizard to the fluffy Pokemon like Aipom and Ludicolo.

The visuals in detective pikachu are a huge part of the film, and they’re a major reason why it’s so popular with audiences of all ages. The animation team did a fantastic job at making the Pokemon believable, and they did so by keeping their silhouettes realistic while still maintaining their Japanese anime-style designs.
