4. Watch on Stan

Stan is Australia's homegrown subscription streaming service, launching in January 2015 six months ahead of Netflix. It has an ever-growing library and can be viewed on a range of devices, including most major smart TVs, Apple TV, Xbox One, Fetch TV, Telstra TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and web browsers on PCs.

Its curated collection of movies and shows isn't quite as large or diverse as Netflix, but there are still some great choices to be had. Recent hits like Parasite, a Stan-produced Aussie horror called Relic, Dredd and The Hobbit sit alongside classics like Pulp Fiction, Love Actually, Ace Ventura and Forrest Gump.

In the genre aisle, you'll find a similar selection to what you'll get on Netflix: crime, comedy, drama, and more. It's also got a solid selection of world films, a couple of Australian favourites (including the latest season of Yellowstone) and some cult classics that don't get enough coverage elsewhere, such as The Silence of the Lambs and Hercules.

There's also a fair bit of 4K to be had, with every James Bond movie in UHD glory. If you're a fan of the series, that's great news.

If you're looking for something a little more niche, however, you may want to check out Domina, a new eight-part period drama from Stan that tells the story of the first Roman empress Livia Drusilla. Starring Nadia Parkes as Livia's young self, it tells the story of her rise from a young woman to one of Rome's most powerful women in a gripping and entertaining way that's sure to appeal to both history buffs and general fans of complex, layered storytelling.

I have to admit that i didn't know much about the time period in which domina is set, but i did have a little bit of background knowledge of it and i loved this series! It was very engaging and it made me feel like i was part of the action which is what i wanted. It was a bit slow at times, but that didn't matter too much because the characters were well written and the story was very interesting!
