The Exorcist

The story follows 12-year-old Regan MacNeil who is possessed by a demon known as Pazuzu. This demon appears in Assyrian and Babylonian mythology as the king of wind demons.

In The Exorcist, Pazuzu is believed to be a combination of animal and human parts. He has the body of a man, the head of a lion or dog, eagle-like taloned feet, two pairs of wings, and a scorpion’s tail.

He possesses Regan MacNeil, who has night terrors, levitation, breaking out in sores, and talking in a low demonic voice. Her mother seeks medical help, but a series of bizarre events leads her to believe that Regan is possessed by the devil.

She hires two priests, Father Damien Karras and Father Merrin, to perform an exorcism in order to save Regan. During the exorcism, Father Merrin opens a copy of the Church's "Rituale Romanum," which is an official document detailing the rite of solemn exorcism.

The Conjuring 2

The Conjuring 2 also introduces Valak, an evil spirit that is possessed by a nun-like figure. This demon is the main antagonist of The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, The Nun and Annabelle: Creation.

The Conjuring 3

The Conjuring franchise has a reputation for showcasing the best horror tropes with memorable characters and spine-tingling scares. Expect a good mix of these things in the latest film, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, which features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.

This time around, the paranormal couple are called to investigate a Rhode Island farmhouse where a family has been terrorized since moving in. Once they arrive, they quickly discover that the house is possessed by an evil entity.

There's a lot of practical effects, and the scares are effective. But the story doesn't quite match the high standards of the earlier films.

In this film, the Warrens are tasked with investigating a case that centers around Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor), who was convicted of murder in 1981 and claimed to be possessed by the devil. This leads to a very different sort of horror than what we've seen in previous movies.

Director Michael Chaves, who previously helmed The Curse of La Llorona, takes over the reigns from James Wan for this installment of The Conjuring series. He cribs from Wan's timing and misdirection, but there are a lot of jump scares that don't hit the mark. And he adds new Satanic cult worship elements, which aren't a great idea.

The Witch

If you’re looking for a good scary movie, then House of horrors is definitely worth a watch. It tells the story of a group of teenagers who are trapped in a house and find themselves under attack from an evil witch.

Director Alex Merkin (House of Bodies) has a solid track record for thrillers and horrors. He has a number of films to his name, including the recent The Deep Ones and I Spit on Your Grave 2.

In this film, a group of teenagers decides to go for a Halloween night party in a haunted mansion. However, they are soon picked off one by one by a poor CGI ghost of the witch.

The premise is not new, but it’s a good movie that has a few cheesy lines that make it entertaining. The acting is pretty good too.

It’s a good horror movie that follows Lovecraft’s story. It’s a bit overly gorey at times, but it’s still worth watching. The best part about this movie is that it isn’t too long so you can watch it in one night.
