How to Watch Maleficent on Netflix

If you're looking for a good fairytale movie that's full of magic, love, and fantasy, then Maleficent is the perfect choice. The film is a live-action retelling of Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and it's available on Netflix.

It's a magical but modern re-telling that's sure to provoke a lot of thought. But it's also a feast for the eyes, with stunning special effects and lush scenery.

Plot

Maleficent, an evil fairy, places a curse on the daughter of the man she once loved. The girl will prick her finger and fall into an eternal sleep unless true love breaks the spell.

The plot is similar to the classic Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty. But this story is much darker. It explores the power of revenge, the beauty of friendship, and how difficult it is to be good when trauma is beyond one's control.

It also shows that a person can be compelled to do something evil and how it can change them forever. However, Maleficent is able to overcome this obstacle and restore the light in the darkness.

Her love for Aurora is more pronounced than in Sleeping Beauty and her bond with Princess Aurora is stronger. She also becomes more sensitive to her feelings.

As the story progresses, she begins to realize that her anger was only directed towards Stefan and Aurora is just a child who can't know anything about her destiny. As she tries to reconcile her past and her curse, she finds it impossible not to fall in love with the princess.

She tries to save her daughter, but she can't do it alone. She needs Diaval to help her. She is afraid that he will be too close to Aurora and her family.

Once she is inside the castle, she sees Aurora in the throne room, she looks at her sleeping like a princess. She is enchanted by her and she is a beautiful girl who is not scared of anyone.

Before she knows it, she is asleep and Diaval transforms into a horse to bring her back to the castle. He is then able to find Prince Phillip who was also captured by the forest guards, but was freed when Maleficent saved him from death and returned him to her.

The scene shows some mild sexual activity between the two characters but it is not too revealing. In addition, there are no product placements or merchandise associated with this film, which is a positive thing.

Characters

Maleficent is one of the most famous Disney villains. She has appeared in films such as Maleficent and Kingdom Hearts, as well as animated series Once Upon a Time. Her appearances are usually minor, but she is a major player in the Kingdom Hearts series.

Her motivations are clear and consistent, and she wants to make bad things happen to people. She shows no mercy and is not interested in forgiveness, as she believes that it would take away her power.

She is also extremely spiteful and will do anything to achieve her goal. She will even capture and torture Prince Phillip, who she thinks is a threat to her domain.

The movie’s plot is a little clunky, but there are some characters to keep an eye out for. Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) is the daughter of King Stefan and the fairy godmother. She is very thoughtful and kind, and develops a relationship with the Moors’ native creatures.

Diaval (Sam Riley) is Maleficent’s servant and her conscience. At her command, he can transform into different forms to complete his duties. He is also known for his strength and ferocity.

He is a strong-willed character, and will do what Maleficent tells him to do. He also is not afraid to speak his mind, and will not back down when faced with a challenge.

In a later scene, he saves Aurora from being captured by the pixies. The pixies are Knotgrass (Imelda Staunton), Flittle (Leslie Manville) and Thistlewit (Juno Temple).

Maleficent is a villain in several other games, including Castlevania IV: Dracula's Curse and Castlevania III: Lament of the Vampire Queen. She is also one of the antagonists in the video game Kingdom Hearts II, where she tries to take control of Sora's heart. She is also seen in the video game Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, where she becomes a part of the main protagonist Mizrabel's design.

She is a popular villain with kids, but she can be hard to watch for older children. However, if you're going to give your child a chance to see this version of the story, it's worth it for the positive message about love and redemption.

Soundtrack

One of the biggest surprises to come out of Disney’s latest film is its spectacularly orchestral score. Often described as James Newton Howard’s return to his more expansive, fantasy-tinged sound of the 2000s and earlier, this is a major achievement.

Maleficent’s four-note curse theme takes center stage in several cues, notably “The Spindle’s Power,” “The Curse Won’t Reverse,” and especially “The Christening”; but it is just one of many musical ideas floating around the soundtrack. As in other works by Howard, this is a composer who is very much at his best when he lets the music speak for itself, allowing it to float across the screen like a sea of mist and faeries.

Among the highlights are the hypnotic suite “Maleficent,” featuring a hypnotic, eerie chant; Welcome to The Moors, a short, dramatic piece that’s reminiscent of John Nelson’s score for Peter Pan; and the beautiful, light-hearted song “Aurora and the Fawn” (recorded by Lana Del Ray), a delightfully uplifting lullaby that’s an excellent representation of how Maleficent’s character grew from her initial rage into her ultimate sense of self-worth. The other highlights include the soaring, sweeping romantic score of “True Love’s Kiss” and the darker waltz-like instrumental work in “Are You Maleficent?”

While the score isn’t particularly long or expansive, it’s packed with moments that deserve to be heard. Some are short, while others are nearly eight minutes in length, but they’re all well worth listening to.

The sylvan beauty of The Moors is also captured in pieces such as “Welcome to the Moors,” which features a beautiful, delicate string section; and “You Could Live Here Now,” which has an equally lovely cello solo. There’s also an incredibly magical song about Aurora in her “Faerieland” that features a stunning oboe solo.

Overall, the symphony-like nature of the score is very reminiscent of James Newton Howard’s scores for Waterworld, Dinosaur, King Kong, Lady in the Water and The Last Airbender. The score is a hugely impressive testament to how powerful this kind of music can be, and it’s a great listen from start to finish.

Visuals

Disney's new live-action reimagining of Sleeping Beauty features the well-known fairy villain Maleficent (Angelina Jolie). This time, though, the fey have taken their story in an unexpected direction, and the result is a surprisingly adult film that explores feminist, religious and ecological themes as it tells the tale of this dark and powerful woman.

At the heart of this tale is Jolie’s performance as Maleficent, a solitary, angular and horned figure who speaks in a theatrically harsh voice and deploys a bitter, jealous wit. She dominates the movie, almost to a fault, and while this makes it hard to follow at times, it also means that her screen presence commands all the attention.

The visuals of the film are gorgeous, with spectacular animation and a dazzling array of effects that make this movie look like it’s been transported to another world. Robert Stromberg’s vision for the movie was to cross between the world of humans and faerie, and his team used complex facial capture and animation, along with digital character and environment work, to bring these characters and environments to life.

Maleficent’s wings are a key aspect of her image, and this is reflected in the way they appear throughout the film. Near the beginning of the film, she flies up to the sky and opens her wings. This imagery recalls the winged angel that represents Maleficent’s own plight and rebirth, as she regains her wings after her curse is lifted by Princess Aurora.

While her horns are a prominent feature of her costume, they aren’t actually sculpted into her face, but rather a computer-generated 3D model that is based on Jolie’s own cyber-scans. This allowed the stereo team to ensure that Maleficent’s head was accurately shaped, while her horns looked authentic and realistic.

A key feature of the film is Jolie’s performance, which is quite powerful and nuanced. She manages to transform this simple role into an extraordinary one, showing us a side of Maleficent that is more complicated and deeper than the character we’re all familiar with.

Adding to the impact of the movie are the powerful themes and the beautiful visuals, which help audiences get immersed in this story and feel connected to its characters. This is especially true of Jolie’s performance, which is one of the best performances of her career.
