There’s an Offscreen Moment of Awesome in the final battle where Edmund fights his way into the midst of the White Witch’s forces and smashes her wand with his sword, allowing the other lions and other characters to attack her without having to worry about being turned into stone. It’s a clever move that helps to turn the tide of the battle, until Aslan’s reinforcements arrive.
The movie is a retelling of the first book in the Narnia series and includes the same characters as the books. The story is told from the perspective of the siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie.
These four siblings have been sent to live with Professor Kirke during the war, but they all eventually discover a mysterious wardrobe inside the house that opens up into a magical land. When Lucy goes through the wardrobe, she is transported to Narnia where she meets a faun named Tumnus.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
In this adaptation of the third book in the Chronicles of Narnia, Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) have moved to their uncle's house with obnoxious cousin Eustace (Will Poulter). One day, as the siblings are looking at a painting of the seaside ship The Dawn Treader on their bedroom wall, the painting comes to life and whisks them into Narnia.
The children are rescued by King Caspian and taken aboard his royal Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader. The ship is a strong, sturdy vessel that can take them across the sea to the Lone Islands and beyond.
As they travel, the children learn that Caspian is searching for seven lost Lords of Telmar, who left Narnia ages ago to defeat a great evil. He explains that he will need them on his quest to bring back the swords that can destroy the evil green mist, which is keeping Narnia in a state of perpetual war.
During their journey, the children encounter many adventures, some of which test them and especially Eustace. When the crew is attacked by a giant sea serpent, Lucy fires an arrow at it. The creature tries to swallow Edmund, but the arrow impales it. At another island, Eustace is transformed into a dragon when he steals the treasure of a lord who disappeared ages ago.
But when Aslan, the lion who rules Narnia, transforms him back into a human, Eustace is able to help the crew. He becomes a helpful member of the team and is befriended by a talking mouse named Reepicheep.
While the film doesn't match all of Lewis's description, it is still a beautiful, magical adventure that takes the audience to places they might not otherwise have been able to go in real life. A rejuvenating star, sunbirds, a sea of lilies, an undersea kingdom, and the cliffs of Aslan's country are just a few examples of the wonder that Lewis brings to this story.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a fun, engaging movie that fans of the books should watch again and again. Its journey to a fantastical place is reminiscent of Treasure Island, Swiss Family Robinson or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but it also gives audiences license to imagine their own adventure. Its story is a tour de force of fantasy that is sure to delight kids, teens and adults alike.
The Silver Chair
The Silver Chair is the fourth book in Lewis's Narnia series. It picks up one year after the end of Dawn Treader and follows the Pevensie children’s cousin Eustace Scrubb as he and Jill Pole travel to Narnia to help an old King Caspian locate his missing heir, Prince Rilian.
Unlike the other books, The Silver Chair is written from a first-person point of view. It is the first in the series where the child protagonists are friends instead of siblings, and it is also the first in which Aslan plays a relatively minor role.
It is a very dark novel, dealing with themes of enslavement, brainwashing, and oppression. The story also features some of the most terrifying scenes in the Narnia series.
In this story, Aslan sends Eustace and Jill back to Narnia a year after their adventure in Dawn Treader in order to save Prince Rilian from the evil Lady of the Green Kirtle, who is a deadly green serpent. As a result, the three of them are kidnapped by underground earthmen and taken to an underworld city where they are immediately confronted with a young man bound in a silver chair. The man’s torment is so intense that the travellers decide to witness it, as they sense that it could hold the key to their quest.
When they arrive, the Knight explains that he has been ensnared in an enchantment that makes him violent and insane for an hour each night. This is a dangerous spell that can only be broken by the three children.
But they can break it only if they succeed in locating Prince Rilian, which is why Aslan sends them to Narnia in the first place. Upon arrival, Aslan gives the three friends four signs to guide them in their quest.
The four signs are: trust in Aslan, faith in other people, courage, and perseverance. They are also told that the world will end unless Aslan is defeated, so the three friends must be prepared to fight for Narnia. This is a powerful lesson for young children and a reminder of the importance of faith.
The Last Battle
Narnia is in danger, and King Tirian has sworn to do everything in his power to protect it. He calls upon Roonwit to gather an army and sets off with Jewel, a unicorn, to confront the Calormenes.
During their journey they hear word that the Dryads have been murdered by Calormenes and that the stars point to something even more dangerous. As the king and his friends prepare to fight the enemy, they meet a tree spirit who tells them that she is being chopped down in Aslan's name by Calormene soldiers.
The spirit explains that she was sent by Aslan to save the trees, and that her kind is now being murdered by Calormenes who are trying to capture Narnia from Tirian's rule. The king is furious, but he sends a loyal centaur to gather his army and sets off with Jewel for the Lantern Wastes.
When they arrive they find that a devious Calormene named Shift has created an Aslan imposter, who aims to sift the Narnians and take their land. When they confront him, he accuses them of lying like Calormenes.
He also tries to convince the Narnians that they will die before Aslan comes back. Nevertheless, the Narnians are determined to fight and so advance on the stable where the Aslan impostor is hiding.
First a Calormene named Ginger runs into the stable and screeches loudly to be heard by a Calormene soldier. The soldier then orders him to enter and see Tash, and Ginger falls back trembling.
The soldier tries to stop him, but the prankster convinces him that he can only be killed if he is seen. So he goes in, and a second Calormene, Emeth, enters. He is so enraged at the deception that he kills another soldier who was stationed in the stable to kill the rebellious Narnians, but he is then driven off by Rishda Tarkaan.
When Rishda tries to stop him, he cries to Tash in his pain and Tash appears. Tash tries to murder him, but Peter catches up with him and banishes him from Narnia.
