How to Watch Outer Banks on Netflix

If you're looking for a new show to watch, you might want to check out Outer Banks. It's a teen drama about two sets of teens living in a North Carolina beach town divided by their socioeconomic status.

Fans of the series will be excited to learn that Netflix has officially renewed Outer Banks for a third season. It's set to debut on February 23!

Locations

The latest teen drama, Outer Banks, has a lot of beach scenes to get your flipper on. Netflix’s new teen series follows a group of friends as they attempt to uncover a mystery about one character’s missing father and a buried treasure. The show is based on adventure novels and the North Carolina coastal area’s history and lore.

In season 1, the group spends a great deal of time on the beach at Palmetto Islands County Park, a popular Outer Banks destination for fishing and surfing. It’s also the site where John B falls off of the observation deck when Sarah tells him she’s breaking up with Topper (Austin North).

While the show was originally filmed in Wilmington, NC -- just a short trip from the real Outer Banks -- Netflix decided to film the show in Charleston, South Carolina, due to a bathroom bill that passed in North Carolina that had "anti-LGBTQ language" in 2016. That means that while you won’t find Sarah Cameron’s home in the Outer Banks, you will find plenty of other locations from the series that are perfectly within reach of the Lowcountry, including Mount Pleasant’s Shem Creek.

Another beach that the cast visits often is Folly Beach, a barrier island located south of Charleston and home to the famous Folly Beach Pier. This spot is an absolute must-visit for tourists and locals alike, with its laid-back vibes, a plethora of restaurants and amusements, and some of the best sunset views you’ll ever see.

A visit to the beach isn’t complete without a stop at the Wright Flyer Museum. This 426-acre state park has a rich aviation history that includes the famed Wright brothers’ historic flight over the sands for 12 seconds. You can also book a hang gliding lesson and explore the natural sand dunes.

If you’re looking for an Outer Banks vacation with a little more to do, consider taking a tour of the area’s filming locations. Many of these spots are within a short drive from central Charleston, making it a convenient and fun itinerary choice.

Season 1

Outer banks is a new Netflix series that follows a group of teenagers on the wrong side of the tracks. They stumble upon a treasure map that unearths a long-buried secret.

The story is set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and looks like it could be a remake of Bloodline, but this series is a little more sophisticated and is a great addition to the Netflix library. The first season is full of action and adventure, with a lot of fist fights, shipwrecks and treasure hunting.

It also has a strong cast, including Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah and Carlacia Grant as Kie. They are all very good at their jobs and bring a lot of energy to the show.

While the series does have some issues with gender roles, it’s still a good watch. It’s not always compelling or a great teen drama, but the mystery is well-written and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The story moves along quickly, with plenty of twists and cliffhangers to keep things interesting. It isn’t overly complex, but the characters are well-developed and are able to grow in depth as the show progresses.

It’s a very enjoyable teen series, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good time. There’s some melodrama and romance, but the story doesn’t take itself too seriously.

As the seasons progressed, I noticed that the characters started to become more developed and had a greater sense of their own goals. It was a nice change of pace from the first season where most of the characters were just there to get in the way.

Outer banks is a fun neo-Scooby-Doo gang mystery, and it will appeal to a wide variety of ages. Its fast-paced story will make it a great watch for a summer weekend. It will make you think about your Scooby-Doo and Enid Blyton days, the thrill of sharing secrets with friends, the little subtleties of teen romance, and facing your challenges as you step into adulthood.

Outer banks is a good watch for a summer weekend, especially when you don’t have any other options. It will remind you of your childhood and make you want to go back to that time.

Season 2

The popular Netflix series Outer Banks is back for another round of swashbuckling hijinks. Season 2 is set to premiere on Friday, July 30, at 12:01 a.m. PT, based on the time at Netflix headquarters in California. However, the release time will differ depending on where you live in the world.

The show follows a group of teenagers who call North Carolina's Outer Banks home. It's an area known for its beaches and palm trees, but there's also a darker side to the island. It's a place where the wealthy Kooks and the poor Pogues have long-standing rivalries, and there are plenty of dangerous crimes happening around town.

John B (Chase Stokes), the leader of the Pogues, is on a mission to find a treasure that his father allegedly lost at sea. But that's all changed when he and Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) get thrown into a boat headed to the Bahamas after being falsely accused of murder.

They're now on an island called "Poguelandia," where they are reunited with Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Kiara (Madison Bailey). When a mysterious woman named Limbrey arrives, the kids learn that she's in possession of the secret map for the sunken Royal Merchant -- and that she wants to take it back.

But the gang won't let her get away without a fight. So when she comes out of hiding and tries to stop them, they all start running for their lives, leading them to an island full of danger.

As the story continues, Pope, JJ and Kiara are still squabbling, but they're also trying to get back together. Eventually, they even discover that they have more in common than they originally thought.

It looks like this season is going to have even more swashbuckling action than the first. Plus, we'll have new characters to watch out for, including Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST) as Limbrey.

And there's even a possible romance between the two leads, which sounds pretty sweet. But they'll have to work for it.

Season 3

If you’ve been craving a little more adventure on Netflix, there are plenty of shows to choose from. Some of the best are shows that combine great characters with exhilarating adventure and Outer Banks is no exception to this rule.

The YA series premiered on Netflix in 2020 and has already garnered praise for its action-packed storytelling. It follows a group of teens who live in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The gang calls themselves the Pogues, and they’re always up for an adventure!

Season 2 ended with the group shipwrecked on a remote island that was officially dubbed “Poguelandia.” They were living life to the fullest, fishing, swimming and enjoying themselves while they were stranded. Then, a new treasure hunt comes their way, and they’re all about to be whisked away on another adventure.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the show’s third season, which is set to debut on Thursday, February 23. The streaming service has released a trailer for the new episodes and a brand-new poster to hype up the season ahead.

While it’s unclear whether the new trailer will offer more details on what’s in store for the gang, it is clear that Season 3 is going to be full of action. The trailer begins with John B (Chase Stokes) reflecting on his journey for treasure over the past two seasons and how that has changed him.

After that, we get a glimpse at what’s ahead for the Pogues. It seems like John B is going to reunite with his father, Big John (Charles Halford), and Sarah enlists the help of an unlikely ally, Rafe (Drew Starkey).

The trailer also teases a possible romance between Kiara (Madelyn Cline) and JJ (Rudy Pankow), who was briefly dating Pope in season 2. Both actors have previously appeared on Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Stranger Things and Boy Erased.

The cast of Outer Banks is returning for season 3, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow and Carlacia Grant. They’re joined by Austin North, Charles Esten, Drew Starkey and Cullen Moss.
