The Set

The set was mainly filmed in California, where the original shows were filmed. For this reunion, the makers opted for an actual town rather than shooting in a backlot. The town of Los Olivos in Santa Ynez Valley, California doubled for Mayberry. A reconstruction of the courthouse facade and a stretch of Grand Avenue were used for the town square.

Some of the most prominent filming locations included a replica of the courthouse, which was placed in a small park on Grand and Alamo Pintado Avenues in Los Olivos. A mid-intersection flagpole was also used for several scenes.

A number of other filming locations were used in the movie as well. Some of these locations included the Hubachers’ Hardware Store and a restaurant called “Chambers.”

While some of these buildings and streets were recreated, it was not entirely possible to get an exact copy of the original sets. However, the filmmakers did an excellent job at recreating them to a high standard.
