How to Watch Serenity Online
Serenity is Joss Whedon’s follow-up to the short-lived Firefly TV show. While it bombed at the box office, the space opera remains a high point in Whedon’s oeuvre.

Serenity is a swashbuckling sci-fi film that's as fun to watch as it is to look at. It is the perfect combination of action, humor and drama. It also boasts a stellar cast that includes Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau and Jewel Staite.
Serenity was a hit with viewers and critics alike. It won several major awards, including the Oscar for best visual effects. It was also nominated for best supporting actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The film's star is Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), who leads a band of misfits in his quest to escape from the Alliance, an intergalactic empire that is not without its problems. He assembles a crew that includes Zoe (Gina Torres), the tough-nosed second in command; Wash (Alan Tudyk), the snarky pilot; and Simon (Sean Maher), the brainy doctor, who happens to be telepathic.
It's also a well-crafted science fiction movie that manages to entertain while remaining true to its source material. In fact, the film's swashbuckling stunts are so well-executed that you can actually feel yourself becoming a part of the action.
If you're a fan of the show or a newbie to the world of SF, Serenity is worth checking out. Its clever use of CGI and special effects will take you on a ride that's as entertaining as it is uplifting. You'll be glad you did! Joss Whedon's Firefly was an out-of-order TV series that drew a dedicated fan base and eventually made the leap to a feature film. While it didn't fare as well at the box office, Serenity is a solid space opera that holds up today.
The plot follows a small band of smugglers aboard a spaceship named Serenity, with each member having a unique role in the crew's life. The group - led by captain Mal "Mal" Reynolds (played by Alan Tudyk), his wife Zoe Alleyne Washburne (Gina Torres) and their Companion, Hoban Washburne (played by Kaylee Frye) - carries out jobs to keep the ship running, including stealing goods from derelict ships marked by the Alliance.
When the ship's engine and life support system are destroyed by a catastrophic explosion, Mal and his crew flee in two shuttles. Flashbacks reveal how he acquired Serenity and gathered the crew, while in the present, his crew searches for an engine that can fix the ship's problems.
He meets up with Badger, a smuggler who's been providing him jobs for some time. The smuggler tells him that the crime lord Niska is after them for their illegal activities. The smuggler also tells him that he's been on the run from the crime lord for some time, and hasn't had much time to make money.
But he doesn't have to worry too long. In the next episode, he gets a job to help Simon Tam get a medical diagnosis of his sister River, who has been on the run from an Alliance-linked project since she was discovered by her brother and smuggled onto Serenity.
The smuggler also tells him about a crime lord who is after him for some of the stolen goods. He also tells him that he hasn't had much time to make any money, and needs some of the stolen goods for his personal use.
The smuggling of these goods isn't all that lucrative for the smuggler, however, and his reputation deteriorates with every job he fails to complete. This leads him to a shady criminal kingpin who demands his revenge for the failure of his last job.

Serenity is an action-adventure film from Joss Whedon that takes place in the universe of Firefly. It follows the crew of a space ship that runs cargo and smuggling missions throughout the galaxy. The crew is interrupted by a psychic passenger named River who harbors dangerous secrets. The renegade crew agrees to hide her on their ship, and they find themselves in an awesome battle between the relentless military might of a totalitarian regime who will destroy anything - or anyone - to get the girl back and the bloodthirsty creatures who roam the uncharted areas of space.
The story isn’t exactly a sequel to the original Firefly TV series, but it does offer a sense of closure for fans of the show. As such, if you want to watch Serenity online, you can find it on several platforms including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and Showtime.
If you’re a fan of the show, then Serenity should definitely be on your list of movies to watch. It’s a great sendoff to the crew, and Chiwetel Ejiofor provides a captivating and formidable antagonist throughout the entire movie.
There are some great performances in Serenity, especially from Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey. However, despite its impressive cast, the movie is a bit of a letdown. It’s a good mystery thriller, but it’s too predictable and lacks the sort of thrilling twists you’d expect from a sci-fi thriller like this.
It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of the Firefly TV show, but it’s not one that will appeal to everyone. Even though it’s not as popular as the original series, it does have some nice touches and it’s a worthy follow-up to the TV show.
Hopefully, Serenity will get more attention in the future. For now, it’s a fun movie to watch with your friends and family.
