This is an outdoor event and you will need to arrive early to find a good spot. The parking lots open at 6:15 a.m. You should wear comfortable clothes and bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on while you wait for the herd to round up.

The roundup usually starts at 9:30 a.m. MT, but this can vary depending on how many people are waiting to see the herd. If you arrive early, you can also enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the hills and the valleys of Custer State Park before the herd goes into the corrals.

In addition to watching the herd round up, you can also walk along the bison corrals and check out the new Bison Center, which tells the story of the American Bison. The Bison Center also has a gift shop for bison-themed souvenirs.

Guests can also visit the Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival with up to 150 vendors and watch the Buffalo Shows under the big top! These events are held Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Custer State Park near the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center.
