How to Watch the Nest

In order to stream video from a Nest camera to your TV or smart display, you must first link the cameras to Google Assistant using an Android smartphone or a compatible Google device. Once that's done, you can use voice commands to control the streaming.

If you want to see a live stream from the camera's video feed on your phone, you can speak to the Nest app or any compatible Android or iOS phone and say "OK Google, stream the Kids Room Camera" or tap the interface on your display to select the desired camera. That will show a cast of the camera's video feed that will play on your phone's screen, as shown in the example below.

You may have heard about the company's upcoming redesigned smart smoke detector, called the Nest Protect, which uses a number of different sensors to monitor your home. Some of the more innovative features include a motion-detecting ring that changes color, a voice alert system and mobile app notifications when all is well.

Despite the new features and the increased capabilities, some of Nest's most popular products have had their share of issues. Among them, the company has had to disable a "Nest wave" feature that would have allowed users to disengage their alarms by waving their hands in the direction of the device.

The company hasn't yet announced a new smoke detector with all of the new bells and whistles, but it has made several tweaks to existing models and released a shiny red version in a limited test group.
