My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Where to Watch It Online

Nia Vardalos's 2002 movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, broke the mold of the rom-com genre. This sweet film about a lonely Greek woman and her loud, overbearing family became the sleeper hit of the year.

It focuses on Toula Portokalos (Vardalos), a quiet young woman who's been raised to be Greek. Her parents want her to be a pillar of the community and follow their traditions, but she's not sure she wants to do that.

1. Download the Movie

One of the few movies to get a special mention is my big fat greek wedding, as compared to the usual suspects this is a family film akin to an episode of House or The Simpsons. As for a more traditional viewing experience, the options include catching this jubilant on a big screen at your local theater or downloading it on to your home theatre system, your tablet or your laptop. Fortunately for the budget conscious the movie is available in the form of a free download. The good news is, you get to download it as many times as you like, in fact, if you like your entertainment on the go, there's nothing stopping you from a few tinier ones for the same low cost of entry.

2. Watch the Movie Online

In 2002, the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding made a huge splash in the box office. Despite its cheesy premise, it was a hit and earned Nia Vardalos and director Joel Zwick critical acclaim.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a sweet and touching movie that focuses on family ties. It also explores the issue of cross-cultural romance between Greek immigrants and their families. This is a serious subject that has been explored by many movies in the past, but My Big Fat Greek Wedding does it in a light and humorous way.

The movie follows Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) as she falls in love with a non-Greek man, Ian Miller (Ian Gomez), and decides to marry him. Toula's father does not accept the marriage, so she must find a way to make him accept her and Ian.

When she finally convinces her father, Gus Portokalos (Bruce Gray) to accept the marriage, he insists on a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony and a baptized marriage. As the date approaches, however, Gus becomes increasingly frustrated and upset that Ian is not a Greek. He and his wife Maria (Fiona Reid) visit the Portokalos home, and they are surprised to find that Gus is still unhappy with Ian's decision to marry a non-Greek.

As the couple tries to get through the wedding and a few other unforeseen events, Toula begins to realize that her parents are not as loud and crazy as they seem. Toula also comes to understand that her parents truly want her to be happy.

Her grandmother shows her photos of herself and Toula's great-grandmother wearing a crown during their own weddings, which makes Toula feel proud of her family. She puts the crown on herself and looks at it in her bedroom mirror, which makes her smile with pride.

Once the wedding is over, Toula and Ian move into their new house next door to Gus and Maria's. Their daughter Paris is getting ready for her senior prom and Toula encourages Paris to go if she is attending the reception.

As the movie draws to a close, Toula and Ian tell their daughter that they will continue to love each other. They hope to be able to enjoy a life together with their daughter and have the kind of family they always wanted.

3. Watch the Movie on TV

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of the most popular films of 2002, so it’s no surprise that you can still catch it on Netflix and Hulu. It’s a sweet little movie that’s fun for the whole family to watch, and it’s the type of romantic comedy that will make you want to put down your phone and actually hug your loved ones.

Nia Vardalos plays Toula, a plain-Jane Greek girl who’s got an overbearing Greek family who think they know best how to raise their children. In particular, they believe that Greek girls are supposed to marry Greek boys and have Greek babies.

But Toula has bigger dreams than just being a pretty face. She wants to go back to school, and she enlists the help of her parents and aunt in order to turn her life around.

In the long run, her newfound self-esteem helps her find her match, and the result is a happy and healthy marriage that lasts. In the end, she and her husband get a nice house, and they even get to enjoy it with their kids.

The film starring Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, and Bruce Gray was no doubt a top-notch homage to the golden age of Hollywood a la Down the Shore, Grace Under Fire, Can’t Hurry Love, and Martial Law, and it did an excellent job of showing off all of the most important aspects of the Greek culture. The cast also does a great job of balancing out the specifics with some transcendent, universally true moments that make this movie a winner in our book.

4. Watch the Movie on Blu-ray

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a heartwarming and hilarious movie about family and culture clashes. It was directed by Joel Zwick and written by Nia Vardalos, who also stars in the film. The movie was released in 2002 and became a huge hit at the box office.

It is a romantic comedy that follows the story of a Greek woman who falls in love with a white man. Her family is not very happy with her new found love and she is faced with a few challenges when trying to get them to accept her.

The story begins in 2001 when Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) meets and falls in love with a non-Greek man, Ian Miller (John Corbett). When her parents learn of her newfound love, they are shocked and don't know how to react. They want to support Toula in her relationship and they are very supportive of the marriage but it is hard for them to accept that she is falling in love with a man they don't know.

But Toula doesn't give up on her dream and she continues to pursue her new love. With the help of her best friend, Maria, Toula learns about her family's heritage and their history. This helps Toula and her father understand each other better, and they begin to build a closer bond.

In the meantime, Toula's 17-year-old daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris) is dealing with her own issues and butting heads with her family about her choices and traditions. Her parents, Gus and Maria, aren't too happy about this and they continue to make Toula's life harder.

At first, it appears that the only way to watch this movie on Blu-ray is to purchase the two-disc 10th Anniversary Special Edition that HBO Home Entertainment offers. This is a Region A locked BD50 disc that sits comfortably alongside the DVD-9 copy of the movie and comes in a blue eco-lite case with an embossed, glossy slipcover.

The transfer is a pleasing but not wholly satisfying AVC-encoded video that delivers solid blacks and excellent shadow details. The colors are accurately rendered with attractive, bold primaries and natural flesh tones. But there is a slight lack of detail in some areas, especially on fine lines and the faces of actors.
