What strikes you about this documentary is how well it traces this infamous family saga, albeit through a skewed lens of hubris and greed. From the obscene calls between his top management to where on earth the millions Maxwell had stolen from his pension fund had gone, to a hysterical call from Ghislaine in the hours before she found out her father was dead, it's a frank portrait of a dynasty that socialised with the Prime Minister and President and operated outside the rules of decency.

There's also a strong element of the Maxwells' disdain for the "normals" around them, which makes their descent into crime and fraud even more heinous than it could have been had they been ordinary people. Like the Roys in Succession, the Maxwells regarded their wealth and status as unearned.
