It’s one of those rare films that doesn’t endorse gender role models that have been deployed by the right wing to animate white nationalist fantasy.

In fact, it’s not a horror movie in the traditional sense: It has no actual scares to speak of, and there isn’t really a climax that will shock or horrify. Rather, it’s a slow-burn of a story that finally explodes in a brutally unexpected and disturbing ending.

This is why I’m so glad Lamb was chosen for this month’s screening at A24. Not only is it a wonderful example of a thoughtful, witty movie, but it also represents a reprieve from the bleak landscape that so many women are facing in today’s society.
