Lane, the Syndicate’s leader, is an extremely manipulative character. He essentially antagonizes Hunt from the very beginning and manipulates him to retrieve information that would put Hunt in grave danger. That’s a pretty smart move, but it leaves him vulnerable to the fact that Hunt could turn the tables on him with a little leverage.
Another interesting character in the film is Atlee, a British agent who is tasked with running the Syndicate. While he doesn’t do anything outright illegal, he does do things that the CIA would likely disapprove of.
Atlee’s actions make a great deal of sense in the context of this movie, because it’s an attempt by the British government to create their own version of the IMF. This isn’t just an excuse to get the IMF reinstated - it’s a way to ensure that their own spy organization does not go under.
There are a few little gags in this movie, most notably the “Other Door!” pre-title gag and Brandt’s habit of repeating the obvious. It’s a small thing, but it adds to the fun of watching the film.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
The Mission: Impossible series is a long running action-adventure series that is as popular today as it was back in the day. In this installment, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team – a bevy of henchmen including Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Rebecca Ferguson – are on the trail of a stolen plutonium bomb that could wreak havoc around the world.
