How to Watch Something on Netflix Without it Showing Up

Netflix is a streaming service that offers a wide range of movies and TV shows. It is available on a variety of devices, including Smart TVs, streaming players and modern video game consoles.

If you don't want someone to see what you watch on Netflix, it is possible to hide it from your profile. To do this, you need to edit your watch history.

1. Go to Settings

If you're not a fan of autoplaying video previews that play while browsing Netflix for new shows, there's a quick way to stop them. It's simple, and it can make for a better watching experience on all devices, including mobile phones.

To disable autoplay for all profiles, head to your Account page and click on Profile & Parental Controls. Then, select the profile you want to change it for and tap the Down arrow.

Then, open Viewing Activity for that profile and click the "hide icon" next to any titles you don't want anyone else to see. That should remove them from the Continue Watching section, but it will take up to 24 hours for similar titles to stop being recommended to you.

You can also hide episodes or entire series, which will hide them from the "Continue Watching" row on all your devices. This is useful if you're using Netflix on your phone or tablet and want to avoid draining your data plan.

Another option to help you avoid data charges is to change the "Download Setup" to "Wi-Fi Only." It's worth noting that this setting only applies to mobile devices, so you'll need to check your mobile carrier's plan before making any changes.

Netflix has several language options for subtitles and audio descriptions that you can adjust to your liking. These options are especially helpful for those who speak English as a second language or who use Netflix in a different language than their primary one.

If you're not a fan of subtitles, you can turn them off by clicking the language settings icon on the top-right corner of the Netflix home screen. This will prevent you from seeing subtitles on any show you're viewing, and it'll remove them from the home screen as well.

You can also turn off the "Block Recommendations" button on your account, which will block anyone from making recommendations to you based on the shows and movies that you've watched. This feature can be particularly helpful for kids' accounts, because it keeps them from seeing a lot of recommendations that they don't like.

2. Go to Privacy

If you have friends or family who use Netflix, they may be using their account to watch movies and shows that you wouldn't want them to see. You can block their access to your account by changing your password or going to privacy on netflix.

Another way to make sure that only you can see what you've watched on Netflix is by hiding your viewing history. This can help prevent other people from finding out what you're watching, and can also keep your recommendations from being skewed.

To hide your watch history, log in to your account on a computer, mobile device or smart TV and go to the Netflix Viewing Activity page. You'll find it under Profile & Parental Controls on the Account tab, and then select Viewing Activity.

Then, scroll down to the bottom and click the Hide All option, which will delete all your viewing history from Netflix. Once you've done that, the change will be in effect on all your devices within 24 hours.

In the event that you don't want to completely erase your history, you can opt to hide just one title or show. This can be a good choice if you want to keep your account private, but still need to access the information on occasion.

You can also hide an entire series from your watching history. If you do this, be aware that you can't access the series again unless you watch all of the episodes.

Getting rid of a series can also be useful for people who have a limited amount of time to watch Netflix and want to limit the number of shows that they watch. If you don't want to remove a series but just hide the individual episodes, click on a single episode and select the "Hide" icon on the right-hand side of the screen to do that.

The same method can be used to hide a specific movie or series from your "Continue Watching" list. This will delete it from your watching history on all your devices, but it won't be displayed in the Continue Watching section on your profile page or in recommendations.

3. Go to Block Recommendations

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services around. But, sometimes its recommendations can be hit or miss. It may recommend you watch a terrible Will Farrell movie or a mediocre Adam Sandler flick.

The reason for this is that the recommendation system is based on what you've watched and how you've rated them. The algorithm that comes up with these suggestions uses all of this information to make suggestions for you to watch in the future.

If you're getting recommendations for shows and movies that aren't in your taste, you can change that by deleting them from your viewing history. These can be shows you've binge-watched, movies you watched but never finished, or even episodes of a TV show that you've seen but haven't yet finished.

You can do this by logging into your profile and clicking on "Viewing Activity." This will display a list of all the titles you've watched since you signed up for Netflix. Just click the "X" next to any show or movie you want to hide, and it will be removed from your viewing history within 24 hours.

In addition to removing individual titles, you can also delete entire TV series by clicking the "Remove Series?" link. Alternatively, you can also delete your watch history by deleting your account.

This is especially useful if you have kids who don't want to see adult content, or if you have a personal vendetta against a specific movie. By removing it from your viewing history, it will be removed from all recommendations and won't show up in your Recently Watched or Continue Watching lists.

Similarly, you can prevent people you share an account with from seeing what you've watched by changing the privacy settings on your account. You can turn off "Forget This Movie" and "Don't Remember What You Watched Last Night," as well as turning off the notifications that will send you emails about what you've watched on Netflix.

Finally, you can set your maturity level to restrict what you can view on Netflix. The lowest setting, "All," includes shows everyone can watch, but it usually has content for kids as well. If you're looking to keep your kids away from adult content, you can set a higher maturity rating and restrict it accordingly.

4. Go to Settings

If you have Netflix on your mobile device, laptop or computer, you can change settings that affect the way the app works. You can change things like the type of plan you have, whether or not to download shows for offline viewing and how much data you use per screen.

You can also change your language, which will affect what subtitles and audio tracks you get on every movie or show you watch. Most titles have these in multiple languages, so you can get a better sense of what’s going on when the show or movie starts up.

Similarly, you can change what languages are used on the menus and other text that’s displayed during a show or movie. This will help you find the content that’s most appropriate for you, which can save you time and frustration when you start to binge a series of episodes.

Another great Netflix tip that helps reduce your binging time is to stop all those annoying trailers from autoplaying when you’re browsing for a new show or movie. To do this, go to your settings and select your profile.

When you choose your profile, a menu will appear with a number of options that are relevant to the device you’re using to stream Netflix. In addition to changing your plan details, you can change how much data your device uses per screen and the quality of the resolution it provides.

A setting that’s especially helpful for people who share accounts with their friends is the ability to delete titles they don’t want others to see. This makes it easier to share a small library of movies or TV shows without having to worry about others seeing your watching history.

If you have kids who are on your account and you don’t want them to see too many movies or TV shows, you can set a parental control PIN that they need to input in order to unlock certain content. This can keep them from spending too much time streaming, but it won’t prevent them from watching what they want to.
