Who will be in the series?
The Silent Witness cast has been a revolving door of characters throughout its run, with new additions joining the show on a regular basis. This includes new character Velvy Schur, a young APT (Anatomical Pathology Technologist) trainee who's withdrawn from his Orthodox Jewish community. Jack's niece Cara Connelly also returns in the series, arriving unexpectedly from Belfast to tell him she is starting a university course in Criminology.
The upcoming season of the series will be set in 2022, and we can expect some familiar faces to make an appearance in the show, including Amanda Burton's Sam Ryan and Emilia Fox's Nikki Alexander. As well as those, new series will see the return of several classic characters, with a big storyline planned for the 26th season.
On the yellowstone prequel series, we can expect Taylor Sheridan to once again focus on the Dutton family's expansion in Montana during 1923, with drought, cattle theft and lawlessness among the main themes of the season. The new series will follow the Dutton family throughout this period, and may include a new storyline around Prohibition.
We'll also be reunited with some of our favourite characters from 1883, with Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West reprising their roles as Diana and Charles. It's possible that we might also see the return of Rufus Kampa and Ed McVey, who play William and Harry in the first two seasons of 1883. Lastly, the series will continue to feature Raylan Givens, the hottest and coolest U.S. Marshal ever to grace a TV screen.
What are the main themes of the series?
As well as a terrifying new threat, Stranger Things 2 explores themes of resilience and mental health. A lot of the characters have their own psychological demons to battle, either alone or with the group.
As in the first series, we also get a deeper look at the role of motherhood and family in Eleven's life. Joyce's (Millie Bobby Brown) journey from a worried mum to an all-out fighter is particularly interesting.
Another theme that permeates the story is the loss of identity and agency. It's especially prevalent in Gilead, a patriarchal theocracy where fertile women are forced to become concubines. This is seen as a means of keeping the power structure in place, with men as dominant figures who reap all the benefits.
It's easy to see how this theme is relevant in a world where gender roles are slowly being dismantled. It's also a powerful metaphor for how power and corruption can corrupt us, whether it's through a government that abuses its citizens or an artefact like the 'Ring of Power' in The Lord of the Rings that allows Sauron to corrupt those who wield it.
Similarly, the story of the Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood explores this theme as well. In a world where a woman's only protection is to give birth to a child, a small part of her agency is lost, which makes it all the more poignant for June as she resists against the patriarchal theocracy - even though she's committing transgressions despite her moral compass.
The battle between good and evil is a common theme in fantasy series. The Chronicles of Narnia, for instance, pits the children of Aslan against dark forces, while Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone explores the idea of a fight between good and evil through the magical characters.
This is a theme that's been around for thousands of years, and one that's still relevant today. It's not just fantasy that uses it to explore the concept of war - the concept is a common motif in science fiction and dystopian series alike, often exploring how a society can be changed.
How do I watch?
The Duke of Sussex and Oprah Winfrey have teamed up for a new documentary series on mental health entitled the me you can't see. It's due to hit Apple TV+ this month and has got a lot of people talking.
The series is a five-part miniseries which is being co-produced by the duo, with Harpo Productions and RadicalMedia serving as executive producers. The show's eagle eyed creators have also roped in 14 "accredited and respected experts and organizations from around the world" to help shed light on some of the more complicated facets of mental health.
