In a similar way to the Desperate Housewives franchise, Why Women Kill has an interesting time zone formula that keeps things interesting by introducing different characters in each decade and letting the audience see how each woman dealt with her situation. This makes for a wonderful contrast and gives the show a unique feel.

Beth Ann Stanton (Ginnifer Goodwin)
Despite a life of trying to be the perfect housewife, Beth Ann Stanton (Ginnifer Goodwin) is thrown off her stride when she learns that her husband Rob (Sam Jaeger) has an affair. As a result, Beth Ann must shift her perspective and start looking at life from a new angle.
As a result of her newfound awareness, she attempts to spice up her marriage. She recruits Sheila to help pull off her faux diagnosis, taking her already far-fetched plan a step further.
She also attempts to win Rob back by dating April, but she finds herself drawn to her more than she can handle. However, her efforts are cut short when she discovers that Rob is cheating on her with the waitress.
The series kicks off in 1963, with Beth Ann trying to make it as a happy housewife while her husband is off having an affair. Her world and life revolve around her husband, so when she learns about his deception, she is naturally in shock.
On top of that, she is losing her daughter Emily to an accident and the guilt is overwhelming. She decides that she is not ready to leave her husband but she is willing to forgive Claire for being the reason she died.
After meeting April at the diner, Beth Ann realizes that she is a different woman than she thought. April is kind and she is not cruel like Beth Ann thought. She tries to convince her to talk but she refuses and later on, she ends up telling her the truth about her husband.
Why Women Kill has delicious little inclusions at the beginning of each episode; tango dancers, a neighbour who grows up and interacts with the three families over the decades, a choice secondary character from each era commenting graveside on how disappointed they are with their lives. The show is also filled with dark comedy, examining how different women deal with infidelity and betrayal throughout time.

She's not sure if she's ready to leave Karl and settle down with Hector, but she eventually convinces him to stay in the house. However, she begins to notice that Karl is acting a little strange and she suspects that he may be taking drugs.
While she might seem like the perfect example of an upper-class, high society wife, Simone is actually just a normal person with her own issues. Having a happy marriage isn't easy, especially when your husband is cheating on you. It doesn't mean that the relationship is bad, but it does have to be addressed.
Taylor Harding (Kirby Howell-Baptiste)
Whether she is playing a sexy, bisexual woman in a breadwinning marriage or a radiant and powerful eternal Death Kirby Howell-Baptiste has an innate sense of what makes her characters compelling. Her characterizations of women who are strong and willing to fight against the world around them make every role she plays shine a little brighter.
In Why Women Kill (2019), Howell-Baptiste plays Taylor Harding, a successful attorney and feminist lawyer in an open marriage to Eli Cohen. When Jade, a casual hookup who is a little crazy and spends too much money on her credit cards, decides to stay at their mansion for two nights, Taylor is understandably concerned about the safety of her husband but she surprisingly finds herself enjoying having her companion around.
Her relationship with Eli soon takes a turn for the worse when she realizes that Jade may be trying to get him back into addiction. After Jade convinces him to take a job as his screenwriter, Taylor begins to feel that she is losing control of her relationship with her husband. She is worried about him having his life in his hands and she tries to make her relationship work with Jade but Eli becomes suspicious of her and starts questioning their marriage.
Howell-Baptiste’s portrayal of Taylor Harding is one of the most interesting and compelling aspects of Why Women Kill. Her character’s underlying strength and willingness to fight back against a world that would otherwise put her in a box are a refreshing break from the usual catty characterizations of modern women.
She is a real force to be reckoned with. Howell-Baptiste has the innate ability to make her characters seem almost too human for their own good, and she has a way of bringing the viewer into the scene in ways that seem effortless. Her portrayals of Elena in Killing Eve, Simone Garnett on The Good Place, and Nicole Malloy on Veronica Mars are all remarkable because she is so able to capture the essence of each woman and her personality so that the audience can’t help but fall in love with them.
