AirVPN Review 2023: Beyond the Flashy Commercials - Our Verdict

If you're looking for the best VPN for you, there are several things you should keep in mind. Among them are the speed, support for torrenting, and privacy practices. But how do you know which VPN to choose?

Speeds

If you are looking for a VPN that provides decent speeds and a reasonable number of servers in a wide variety of countries, AirVPN might be a good choice. However, there are some disadvantages to the service. It is priced very similarly to many of its competitors, and its server network appears to be a bit thin. The speed ratings on AirVPN's website indicate that you should expect to lose about 10-15 percent of your base speed when connecting to a local server.

You'll also have to pay a subscription fee, and you won't get a free trial. In fact, AirVPN doesn't even offer a free version.

The company's website has a very user-friendly interface, but the technical details are somewhat lacking. For instance, it does not feature a "tracking cookies" button. Aside from that, it's difficult to figure out what's going on.

Another nifty feature is the Network Lock kill switch. This is an innovative technology that automatically disables your VPN connection if it is compromised.

Streaming services unblocked

AirVPN is a service provider of Italian origin. Its 240+ servers spread across 22 countries, including Spain, Japan, and Austria is a well-balanced offering. Though its servers may not provide the best streaming experience, it does offer a variety of subscription plans that are affordable.

Aside from the usual suspects, AirVPN also provides access to many TV networks and streaming services from across the globe. For example, the Netherlands is home to 68 servers, while Brazil is home to 33. In addition, the company does a decent job of providing maintenance updates and a discussion forum to address known ISP issues.

While AirVPN has an impressive number of servers, it does not have a dedicated streaming server. If you want to unblock Netflix, you will have to look elsewhere.

The service is not without its flaws, though. The servers are overloaded during high traffic periods. Also, AirVPN did not mention that the servers can handle the more complex task of unblocking streaming services.

Support for torrenting

If you're looking for a strong, reliable VPN that supports torrenting, AirVPN may be a good option for you. It's one of the more secure services out there, and it's also very affordable. However, there are a few drawbacks.

Compared to other VPNs, AirVPN's server network is small. So it's not as reliable if you need to download content from far-off countries. Despite this, the company's prices are also reasonable, and you'll get more bang for your buck if you opt for a longer subscription.

Unlike many other VPNs, AirVPN doesn't log any data, including your IP address. Instead, the data it collects is used to maintain your connection. And once you're no longer using the service, it's deleted.

Another good thing about AirVPN is its leak protection. You can see exactly how much bandwidth you're using, as well as any latencies between servers. You can also browse through your anonymized user statistics.

Although you won't be able to watch streaming content through AirVPN, it does support popular torrenting apps like BitTorrent, Sony Crackle, and Peacock. Plus, it has the advantage of being compatible with most operating systems.

Privacy practices

Unlike most VPN providers, AirVPN doesn't keep any logs or records. Instead, it keeps a minimal amount of account data on its secure servers. As soon as a user no longer needs the information, it is deleted. This means that there is no way for hackers to find and trace your Internet activity.

AirVPN is run by a group of "hacktivists" who want to protect users' privacy. They formed the organization in Italy in 2010. At its core, the organization prioritizes internet freedom and censorship resistance. The company's founders are security experts and activists.

AirVPN's policy is based on the new European privacy law, GDPR. It is designed to ensure that users get the same level of protection and data privacy no matter where they live. However, AirVPN does not accept requests from law enforcement authorities outside the EU. In fact, it states that it is illegal to pressure private companies to do anything that is not in their interest.
