NetscopVPN Review 2023: Beyond the Flashy Commercials - Our Verdict

NetscopVPN is a virtual private network that can be used to secure your internet. It works in a way that you don't need to install any software. All you have to do is set it up and it will automatically start protecting your network. The service is affordable and they provide all the hardware that you need to make it work. There is a wide range of features to choose from and it's a perfect solution for those who need a VPN that can keep them secure at all times.

Cloud Apps Only

Cloud Apps Only is a steering mode that allows users to steer selected cloud apps to Netskope for deep analysis. This configuration mode is the default for new tenants. The user must specify which cloud applications to steer, along with the User Group, Organization Unit, and Apps for Steering. To configure this mode, you will need the latest version of the Netskope Client.

You will also need a Cloud Firewall and DNS license. If you have one of these licenses, you can choose to steer DNS traffic to Netskope or steer all web traffic to Netskope. Web traffic is a good option for steering traffic with personal content. For off-premises configurations, you can steer DNS traffic as well. However, this option is only available with a Cloud Firewall license.

Finally, you can also use Dynamic Steering to change the traffic forwarded based on where the user is located. This can be useful for users who need to access private or internal apps, as well as those who are working on older client versions. By allowing users to select their own steering configuration, you can help ensure that traffic is steered only to the correct destination. In addition, Dynamic Steering can be configured to bypass traffic that has been sent to Netskope. With this feature, you can avoid sending traffic to Netskope if you know that a particular user has not yet downloaded a certain app.

In short, you can make use of all of these steering modes to provide your users with a seamless, rich experience when accessing your cloud applications. However, you will want to consider your specific needs before deciding which configuration is best for you.

Web Traffic

If you're using NetskopeVPN, you can configure your traffic steering to steer all web traffic to Netskope for deep analysis, or to steer selected applications to Netskope for deep analysis. You can use the default tenant configuration, or you can create your own steering profiles and assign them to your Active Directory or security groups. The default configuration is usually used as a fallback, but you can create a separate steering profile if you need to.

Bypassing traffic from being sent to Netskope is possible by setting the Bypassed Traffic setting to Log. This ensures visibility into the traffic that is not sent to Netskope. However, if you have excessive steering bypasses, you could expose your organization to a higher risk.

To configure your traffic steering, go to the Netskope Admin Console. In the top right of the screen, click Configuration. Next, select the Default Tenant Config option. Select the Steer Web Applications or Cloud Apps Only option. For Cloud Inline customers, select Cloud Apps Only. For all other organizations, select All Traffic.

Finally, set the Encryption Domain. Specify the host or ports where you want the encryption domain to be applied. For example, port 80/443 traffic can be sent to the encryption domain. A few additional functions can also be added to the encryption domain.

You can also customize the user group that will be assigned to the new traffic steering profile. Depending on the needs of your organization, you can target this traffic steering profile to your IT team or to a specific team managing the Netskope platform. There are other options to customize the traffic steering, such as setting the Default Tenant Config to steer Cloud-Apps Only, or using Dynamic Steering to change the traffic that's forwarded based on the location of the user.
